Article 49-Honourable
discharge
| 49.1 |
Honourable discharge |
| |
The honor of a honorable discharge is reserved for only those officers who retire with dignity from the police force and those officers who show courage and respect in admitting fault in any special disciplinary hearing. |
| 49.2 |
Conviction of a serious crime and breach of Police Code does not mean a dishonorable discharge |
| |
While no police officer should seek to deliberately commit a crime, or breach the police code, the occurence of such events in themselves does not mean a police officer shall automatically be denied an honorable discharge. |
| |
An officer who openly admits guilt of a serious crime within sixty days of the event, without forcing their colleagues to expose such a breach has displayed an inner courage and preparadness to face their fate. Such courage and respect to the dignity of the force means this police officer has redeemed their honor and therefore is entitled to an honorable discharge. |
